UPCOMING WORKSHOPS AND PHOTO TOURS

Neal is now accepting students for Photography & Printing classes, as well as a photography tour of Tuscany, Italy. 

Each darkroom workshop is one day of shooting, followed by four days of developing, printing contact sheets, and printing. As always, darkroom classes are limited to four people. For all darkroom workshops, Neal will be supplying chemistry, paper, and film.

2010 Workshops

January 24, 31, February 7, 14th Belfast, Maine Beginners Digital Class.  4 Sundays in row. 2 hours each. We will shoot for an hour, than go back and critique your work on laptops
February 8-12   Belfast, Maine Intermediate digital photography, 5 days shooting, and working on laptops
February 22-26  Belfast, Maine Darkroom.  (Advanced) Shooting and developing, including some infra-red.  We will go out and shoot, come back and develop and begin printing.  We will do large prints the end of the week.
March 15-19 Belfast, Maine Darkroom.  (Advanced) Shooting and developing, including some infra-red.  We will go out and shoot, come back and develop and begin printing.  We will do large prints the end of the week.
March 22-26  Belfast, Maine Darkroom. (Beginners) Monday we shoot all day, and then develop our film. Tuesday we begin printing. Of course we will do night shooting, always a favorite of the classes.
April 15 -21 Paris, France Paris France, all levels.
April 22-27 Provence, France Classic Provence, all levels
April 27-May 2 Provence, France Hidden Provence all levels
May 3-7 Belfast, Maine Darkroom.  (Advanced) Shooting and developing, including some infra-red.  We will go out and shoot, come back and develop and begin printing.  We will do large prints the end of the week.
June 7-12 Rockport, Maine  Maine Media Workshops
June 21-26 Maine Coast The windjammer Angelique.  All levels digital.  Spend the week sailing off the coast of Maine. Each day we will go to a different island and shoot.  There will be also opportunities to photograph the many shore birds of Maine, as well as seals, dolphins, and all other sorts of wildlife.  Daily instructions, and critiques.

Neal conducts photographic workshops at his studio and darkroom in Maine for students at all levels of experience. The darkroom classes are limited to 4 students, allowing for more personal, one-on-one instruction. The darkroom is spacious, which eliminates crowding and congestion while processing film and prints.

Classes include lessons in shooting with available light, composition, lighting, exposure and flash photography. Although the classes are designed for the beginner to understand, students at all levels of experience are welcome and will enjoy the many opportunities to learn and contribute.

After shooting along the beautiful Maine coast, students develop their own film, select the images they want to print, and learn how to get the most out of each negative to make prints. Each day the previous day's work will be critiqued before resuming printing.

Printing techniques and individual tastes are essential in producing the best possible images. Students will work with Neal to produce and enhance the shots that excite them the most.

The paper, chemistry and film is provided. The goal for the week is for each student to become comfortable with the basics of developing and printing so they can establish their own darkrooms at home. Taking the photograph is only half the fun, printing one's own images is the other half. 

Students are encouraged to bring some old negatives and prints if they have them. Learning to improve your old shots can be as rewarding as creating new ones. Printing your own images is the completion of the photographic art. Every image brings new excitement, and new challenges, year after year. Always learning something new keeps us creative and improving. 
Repeat students will receive a 10% discount on workshops held in Maine (discount does not apply to European trips).
A 25% non-refundable deposit is required.
