For over thirty-five years Maine photographer Neal Parent has been photographing the coast of Maine, its people, places and coastline. Living in Belfast on the Maine coast has afforded him infinite opportunities to photograph Downeast’s scenic richness: landscapes, seascapes, boats, lighthouses and harbors. His black and white photography of Maine has been published in three books, “My Corner of Maine”, “Neal Parent’s Maine” and “Focused on the Coast”, as well as numerous magazines. Ansel Adams said of Neal’s work: “I found your images to be fine interpretations of the Maine ‘scene’.”
Many of his images have been taken while sailing the coast on Midcoast Maine’s windjammers, conducting his popular photography workshops. Neal conducts workshops in Maine and abroad. In addition to private digital and film workshops, Neal teaches at Maine Media Workshops in Rockport, Maine, on the ketch Angelique. Past workshop locations include Paris, the Riviera, Florida, Montana and Wyoming. In April 2014 he is off to the southwest coast of Ireland to teach a 9-day workshop.
Neal’s entertaining teaching style laced with humor has inspired many other photographers to discover their own talents. Many students have become friends and return year after year to hone their photography skills and have a great time working with Neal. Upcoming workshops are listed on the Workshops page.
His images are available as limited edition fine art prints directly from him, at the Parent Gallery. A selection of his work, both color and black-and-white, is represented here on NealParent.com. Be sure to check out the Parent Gallery Facebook page, where Neal posts many images from his workshops.
